MGT Teesside Ltd. owns and will operate the Tees Renewable Energy Plant (REP). Construction on the Tees REP started in 2016. The plant is expected to come into operation in January 2020.
When completed, Tees REP will be the largest purpose-built biomass plant in the world and will provide 2.3 TWh of low-carbon electricity every year, enough to power 600,00 homes across the North East with dependable, renewable, low-carbon electricity.
The Tees REP will be a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) facility, with heat available for on-site processing as well as for nearby 3rd party customers.
All biomass for the Tees REP will meet strict sustainability criteria regulated by Ofgem and is traced from point of origin, which means we account for the emissions of the whole supply chain, ensuring a cut of at least 60% compared to fossil fuels.
The plant will cost £650 million to build and once in operation it will bring approximately £20 million in annual spend into the region. This supports local communities, supply chains and high-skilled jobs in sectors like engineering.
A consortium of Samsung C&T and Tecnicas Reunidas has been appointed as EPC contractor on the project.
